During the week of October 10th, PECO
will begin the final phase of construction to replace underground
electric cable in Newtown Crossing. The purpose of this work is
to upgrade high voltage underground electric cable and splices identified
in 2000 as having a higher than acceptable outage history and reaching
the end of its life. This work will mark the completion of a multi-phase,
five year commitment to improve long-term reliability made by PECO
to the Newtown Crossing Community Association in 2000.
The first part of this final phase
of construction, expected to begin late this week, will be the digging
of 'pilot' holes throughout the entire scope of work to identify
the location of buried facilities and underground soil conditions.
The second part will be trenching
and the installation of conduit. The conduit, which for the most
part will be installed in the roadway to minimize damage to customers'
properties, enables a way to easily pull in replacement high voltage
cable without major excavation, should that become necessary in
the future. Conduit installation will start at the intersection
of Mill Pond and Buck Road and continue for the next three weeks
up Mill Pond and adjacent side streets to Princess Lane. Trenching
from Princess Lane to the intersection of Canterbury Court and Union
Street will occur between November 7th and December 9th. Streets
affected include: Mill Pond, Cherry Lane, Gettysburg Lane, Hickory
Lane, Hershey Court, Franklin Court, Delaware Court, Princess Lane,
King Charles Lane, York Street, Chestnut Drive, Hidden Valley Lane,
Chesapeake Drive, Candlewood Court, and Canterbury Court.
The final portion of the project will
involve pulling new cable through the newly installed conduit and
connecting it to the transformers. All work will be completed by
the end of 2005.
PECO has awarded this work to Danella
Construction. Danella will be staging their equipment and material
for the project in the parking lot near the pool and playground.
During construction, the NCCA Board is asking all residents to walk
and drive cautiously in all construction areas. Parents, please
keep your children away from all equipment and material during the
project.
